Year 2

In Year 2 we aim to cater to all pupils and their needs by not only following the statutory framework but making sure we have a rich learning environment which is fun, creative and accessible for all pupils. The children will be sitting their SATS papers at the end of May. However, we have more of a holistic approach when assessing our children we make sure we assess their reading, writing, and maths over time to have a fair assessment.

The children will write for different purposes with a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. We strive to produce prolific writers and hope to share our passion for writing with the children. We follow a reading scheme called Optima which has had a huge impact on children’s reading and we practice this twice a day. In maths, we foster a variety of skills to help produce competent mathematicians. Children will take part in a variety of activities that focus on mental maths, problem solving and reasoning. The schemes we use are Optima maths and White Rose.

We aim to go on a trip every half term as we know how important it is to learn through the outside world as there are plenty of teachable moments outside of the school environment.
