Peter Hills Church of England School

Foundation Subjects

Our curriculum isn't just about Reading, Writing, and Maths. We realise that a full education is one that provides children with a well rounded learning experience. Foundation subjects such as history, geography, Citizenship and PHSE offer occasions for children to consider their responsibilities on issues surrounding the environment, local and global communities.  They also provide opportunities for children to use their creative and critical thinking in ways that challenge them to question the world around them.

History Intent, Implementation and Impact

History Progression of Skills

Our intention is to celebrate the rich heritage of our locality and beyond. We aim to celebrate London's incredible history, people and places; putting into context events that have shaped our lives today. We intend to foster inquisitive learners, who are not content to relegate history to a series of stories, but to enquire into , search for and critically examine evidence from the past.

Geography Intent, Implementation and Impact

Geography Progression of Skills

Our intention is to provoke a sense of who our children are, their diverse heritage and what makes our local area unique and special. We aim to stimulate and provide answers to questions about the most intriguing natural and human aspects of geography . In this ever-changing, interconnected world, we want our children to leave us with a curiosity and fascination for the planet we call home.

Art Intent, Implementation and Impact

Art Progression of Skills

Our intention is for all children to see art and design all around them and to identify and appreciate artistic endeavours in the everyday. They will confidently make connections between the visual and tactile experiences and feel value in creating art and expressing artistic sentiment.

Computing Intent, Implementation and Impact

Computing Progression of Skills

Our intention is that through the study of Computing, children will be able to develop a wide range of fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding that will actually equip them for the rest of their life.

D and T Intent, Implementation and Impact

D and T Progression of Skills

Our intention in DT is to encourage children to become independent, creative problem-solvers and thinkers as individuals and as part of a team. Through termly DT projects, we want children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts and to consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. In our teaching of Design and Technology, we strive to prepare children for the rapidly changing world of tomorrow.

PSHE and RSE Intent, Implementation and Impact

Our intention is that our children will become healthy, independent and responsible members of our ever changing society. We know that where PSHE is delivered well, children's life chances and academic successes are vastly improved. Therefore, we aim to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and advocate for those that live in our diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. They are empowered to recognise the importance of personal privacy, of respecting others' personal space and that they are custodians of their own bodies and should look after and protect them. They should be empowered to take control of their online presence, recognise when they are not safe and understand how to ask for support.
