Dear Parents / Carers,
I am delighted to attach the Ofsted report from our recent inspection during which it was judged that Peter Hills remains a good school. This report will be placed on the Ofsted website on the 26th May and is now on the school website.
After the last inspection, in May 2013, the school faced a time of considerable turbulence and uncertainty. A lack of stable leadership resulted in a decline in standards across the school. There have been many changes in the school since my arrival in January 2016 and there is a great deal to celebrate in achieving a ‘solid’ good under the revised and stringent inspection regime.
The report recognises the rapid improvements that have been made through the dedication and hard work of the senior leaders, governors and staff. The inspector commented specifically on the strength and skill of the teaching team and the children's positive attitude to learning.
I am particularly pleased with the comments that we have been "proactive and uncompromising in (our) approach to improving the quality of teaching. This has resulted in many pupils making accelerated progress" and "pupils books demonstrate standards of writing that are largely at or above age related expectations."
The dedication and commitment to learning shown by our children shone through during the inspection. They understand the value of school and make the most of every learning opportunity. The inspector was impressed by both the behaviour and engagement in lessons.
I am grateful for the trust, support and commitment parents have provided. The inspector was also impressed by the overwhelmingly positive response by the parents. Thank you to those who took the time to meet with the inspector and reinforce the significant improvements in the quality of teaching and learning. As a school we are very fortunate to have such a strong sense of community and togetherness.
I am incredibly proud of this report and it's recognition of the uncompromising standards we have set over the last 14 months. The quality of teaching is now stronger than ever and this has resulted in higher expectations and therefore better outcomes for our children. None of this would be possible without the dedication and tenacity shown by staff. I’d like to personally thank each and every one of them for the role they play in school improvement.
Moving forward, we will continue to demand high standards from all and be relentless in our pursuit of excellence for the children at Peter Hills. There is still much to do and I look forward to continuing the improvements over the next 12 months.
Once again, thank you all for your support and commitment to the school.
